You may already know about new features added by google in gmail labels. I was feeling the similar need and google did it once again :-). Yes, the folder like attribute for labels apart from plain label function making label a versatile element. You can now simply drag and drop your mails to a label and that will act like a mail folder. Gmail has two types of labels: system labels like inbox,chats,sent mails,draft,trash,spam,etc; and custom labels as user will create and use . Also, you can put diff colours for custom labels ( red,green,yellow,blue,etc;) to identify and giving good look and feel :-).
You will also have control on labels to hide or show.
I just created few labels: Personal,Friends,Jobs,VVIMP,Work and My Shayris. I can simply drag and drop a mail to any of these labels . Just like folders :-). A very impressive feature of gmail :-).

It seems Google is trying to make mail labels versatile to keep labels ahead of mail folders ( i.e; gmail ahead of other mails) :-). I am eagerly waiting for next enhancement news :-).
